Woman Steals Merchandise, Hides It In Baby Stroller At Westchester Store: Police

A 24-year-old woman faces criminal charges after stealing merchandise from a Northern Westchester store and hiding it in a baby stroller occupied by a 10-month-old child, police said.

The arrest resulted from an incident that began in Yorktown on Tuesday, Jan. 23 around 1 p.m., when a theft happened at the Dick's Sporting Goods store in the Jefferson Valley Mall at 650 Lee Blvd., Yorktown Police announced on Tuesday, Jan. 30. 

Responding officers soon conducted an investigation and were able to find the suspect's car. Authorities also determined that the suspect had stolen merchandise valued at a total of $104.95 by hiding it in a baby stroller already occupied by a 10-month-old child, police said. 

Yorktown Police then sent out information about the suspect's vehicle to surrounding agencies to find her. 

Hours later, around 5:45 p.m., the Putnam County Sheriff's Office pulled this vehicle over on Route 9D and identified the suspect as 24-year-old Dutchess County resident Jaznia Mccrae of Beacon. After her arrest, she was taken to Yorktown Police headquarters and charged with petit larceny and endangering the welfare of a child, according to authorities. 

Mccrae was later released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, Feb. 8.
